Start your day relaxed while you are driving in an air-conditioned vehicle towards Krka national park. Your English speaking driver will explain the tour highlights to you and answer any questions you may have. The first stop is the Krka National Park, named after the river Krka. This stunning park has 7 waterfalls, numerous walking trails, and viewpoints. Swimming is not allowed in the National Park. Skradinski Buk is a pool with a set of gorgeous waterfalls and cascades. It is considered to be one of the most beautiful calcium carbonate waterfalls in Europe. You do not want to miss that!
Following river Krka, you will arrive at the town of Sibenik. Sibenik is the oldest native Croatian town on the coast and a place where river Krka flows into the Adriatic sea. If needed, a local guide can help you explore and better understand the town’s rich history. The most recognizable building in the town is the Cathedral of St. James. It took almost 100 years to complete, which resulted in a variety of styles. The cathedral is listed as UNESCO’s World Heritage Site and is an architectural masterpiece. Next on the list of attractions is the Old Town Hall. It served as a place for making big political decisions, important business and even as a temporary detention house.
At one point, Sibenik had 5 fortresses that protected the town. St. John’s fortress is the one that stands out the most. It was constructed in just 6 weeks because the residents were fearful of Turkish invaders. Today these fortresses are equipped with modern technology that enables better experience to visitors. Previously mentioned cathedral and fortress appeared in the popular series Game of thrones.
What a better way to end this Krka and Sibenik tour than with a glass of high-quality wine and traditional Dalmatian Peka. Peka is a tasty dish, with meat and vegetables, that is prepared underneath a bell-shaped dome lid covered with hot coal. If you are a wine enthusiast, conclude your gastronomical experience in Sibenik by sampling some locally produced wines.
