Turn your ordinary transfer from Split to Dubrovnik into a private day trip filled with some exciting stops!
Your door-to-door transfer starts with a pleasant ride after the driver picks you up from your accommodation or the airport. We advise an early start, preferably around 8 am or 8. 30 am, to avoid the rush hour. On your way to one of the most beautiful cities of the Dalmatian coast, we suggest that you stop at a small fishing town Ston.
What makes Ston so interesting? First of all, it is known worldwide for a series of defensive stone walls. They were the longest defense walls in Europe at that time, and now they are one of the best-preserved fortification systems in the world. The walls are also known as the European version of the Great wall of China. They protected the town’s saltworks and shellfish farms back in the day, which are existing to this date.
There are also other activities, besides sightseeing and photographing, that you would enjoy taking part in. You can taste traditional Dalmatian cuisine at a local restaurant or try delicious oysters at an oyster farm. This region is appreciated for its shellfish cultivation since Roman times. This is proved by the fact that the oysters from Mali Ston Bay won The Grand Prix and Gold Medal at World Exposition in London in 1936. This great recognition attracted many gourmets to this once unknown town. If this fact intrigued you, then you must see how they are farmed. Visiting oyster beds is done by a small wooden boat. During the visit, you will learn about the process of production itself and notice that everything is still going to be done by hand.
If you want to feel like a genuine Dalmatian resident, then you need to follow the tradition of having a glass of wine after a good meal. You can discover numerous family-run wineries going deeper into the Peljesac peninsula. There you will be able to sample the most exquisite Croatian wines: Dingac, Postup, and Plavac Mali. Presentation is particularly important for them since wine production is deeply rooted in many generations that live and have lived in that area. That is the reason you will hear them talking about it with a special kind of passion and dedication.
You definitely would not regret making this detour as you are going to better comprehend Croatian culture and their specific way of life. Keep in mind that you are going to cross borders at Neum, so make sure that you have your documents by your side. During the high season, small delays are possible due to large queues, although you are not going to wait as much as large groups in tourist buses. Please keep in mind that the order of the sights depends on which direction you are starting your transfer/tour!
From pickup to drop off, our transfers and tours have flexible itinerary to make the most of your time, needs and wishes.
